Donald
E. Ashe has been the Register of Hampden County since 1982. Over the last several
years he has brought the Registry into the 21st century by implementing new technologies
such as image scanning, fax on demand for documents and index lists, optical disk storage
and a streamlined document recording process. Mr. Ashe was born in Springfield, he is a graduate of Cathedral High School, Cornwall Academy and the University of Massachusettes Institute of Government Services. He also holds a certificate from the Lee Institute of Real Estate. Prior to becoming Register of Deeds, Mr. Ashe held the position of Director of Relocation and Property Management Services with the Springfield Redevelopment Authority. Mr. Ashe worked extensively with federal, state and local agencies relocating large business firms during the early stages of the renaissance of Springfield. Mr. Ashe served as Chairman of the Hampden County Democratic Committee of which he is still a ranking member. In 1982, he was elected to the office of Register, Hampden County Registry of Deeds. Mr. Ashe is a licensed real estate broker, a Justice of the Peace, Commissioner to Qualify, Notary Public and serves as Assistant Recorder of the Land Court Division for the Commonwealth of Massachusettes under Chief Justice Marilyn Sullivan. He is a member of the Holyoke St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, the John Boyle O'Reilly Club, the Springfield Lodge of Elks #61, the United States Coast Guard Auxillary and the Springfield Jewish Community Center. He has been an instructor for the Hampden County Deputy Sheriff's Training Program and is an immediate past President of the Massachusettes Registers of Deeds Association. He served as Chairman of the Board at the Clinton Nursery School and Kindergarten, and he served as Chairman of the United Way fundraising drive for Hampden County. Mr. Ashe is also a past Grand Marshall of the Springfield St. Patrick's Day Parade. |
